Corneal Shaping

Orthkeratology

Orthokeratology, also known as Ortho-K, actually reshapes your cornea while you sleep. With properly fitted, special contact lenses that are worn during the night, while you are sleeping, some people who are near-sighted (myopia) can actually improve their vision. Sounds like something out of the future, right? Well, my friends, the future has arrived with orthokeratology!

The effect of this corneal shaping is temporary, with results lasting about a day. The special lenses must be worn each night to achieve the vision-enhancing results.

Contact Lenses

Corneal Refractive Therapy/CRT

In June 2002, the FDA granted approval to a type of corneal reshaping via special overnight contact lenses called Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT). At the same time, new manufacturing methods and lens designs are allowing orthokeratology lenses to achieve much higher success rates than experienced in the past. The performance of "reverse geometry" or "return zone" designs has engendered new interest and research into corneal shaping via orthokeratology.
